The work of Robert Hills is the creation of art that is the objectivaction of the thought process of making art. It is an aesthetic language using four types of transformations of basic forms. It can be likened to looking at the interaction amongst the four forces of the search for a grand unified theory in physics.

The paintings are a visual software where thoughts interact across forms on the canvas causing the forms to communicate and resonate interact with each other.

It is a visual abstraction of an artist thinking about art.

The forms are interacting with each other in a dialog that is like the software of generative forms. The dialog of amongst these visual forms also works to bring out the nuance, inflection and poetry of this conversation about art [a characterization that is so much of what art is]. It is the internal dialog and the thought process that is taking place in the mind of someone thinking about and creating art.

The work is using the surface to reveal and codify the process of an artist thinking about art.

The work is about rendering the imagination on the page.

The pieces exhibited here fall into five categories:

  • The primary black and white, which are the primary discourse of my work

  • The multi-chromatic works, which are research into pathways to the primary aesthetic conversation

  • Conceptual works

  • Polemic works

  • Experimental works including computer generated forms
