NON CHROMATIC WORK

The non chromatic works are a conceptual software of the imagination. They are thinking paintings. They are visual software.

Over two decades ago I developed an artistic language using the simplest basic forms. These forms were then manipulated to form complex rhythms and patterns.  An analog to this would the be the creation of a notation that is like letters to words, notes to music or binary code to software.

Early investigations generated from this notation became the equivalent of words and rules of syntax which evolved into a basic language. The next threshold in this visual investigation was to use this language to create a form of prose with aspirations to the poetic. The ultimate destination of this art making has been to make art that is first experienced as the output of the creative process [the painting] and simultaneously experienced by the viewer as the direct experience of the intellectual process and experience of  being inside and part of the process of the art making and the activity of the imagination.

An analogy would be the attempt to write a score of music designed so that by seeing the score the viewer could hear the music and simultaneously experience the mind of the composer in the act of creation. It is of course by that measure an exploration of the heroic and the impossible.
